to be 3 in June

is to not even think twice before
dashing into the front yard sprinkler

is to take turns swinging in all four swings
each visit to the playground

is to go to Bible school and see your friends
and have Kool-Aid and Oreos

is to stay up till it’s dark
is to blow giant bubbles
is to make chalk drawings in the driveway

“what is so rare as a day in June”
what is so divine as to know the innocence
of you, little one,
hair blowing,
legs kicking,
as you swing high,
your feet against the backdrop of yet another
blue blue sky

hold on
hold on tightly
this is our eternal now
