Dogwood Winter

It’s like mountain Spring today
and that is not to wax nostalgic

The sisters are going through her things
They’ve all made lists of things they want
They are not greedy.
They just want to make sure nothing ends up by the wayside

It’s a transfer of ownership
a transfer of titles
that comes with someone’s passing

The new owner, from out of town, will rip up the carpet
                                                            mend the roof
                                                            install granite countertops
and transfer again.

One of the sisters will become the new matriarch.
it’s a transfer of titles
They are all reminders of the passage of time…
changing of seasons.

At what point do you own a thing long enough for it to be
      truly yours?
